THE STORY

A story of forbidden love and a family secret that waited a generation to be found.

"A summer of elegance and wit, secret trysts and declarations of undying love, villains vying for a dowry, duels at dawn, and half a dozen marriage proposals. A pity none of it is real. This summer, as in every season since learning to read, I have escaped my drear, loveless existence by immersing myself in stories. But these days, I make a point of choosing books that would earn my guardian’s disapproval."

PRAISE FOR THE NOVEL

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING

“A woven dual-timeline novel that braids two mothers' lives into a single, powerful meditation on identity, sacrifice, and the devastating cost of buried truths. The author brings the White Cliffs of Dover to life with such vivid descriptions that I could practically feel the sea wind, the setting becomes a character in its own right. When the truth finally comes together, it's emotional, satisfying, and completely worth the reading journey.”

NORM DE LUE | AMAZON READER

“A tender, gripping historical novel set in Dover, 1897. Sarah Crouch's love for books and her longing for a life beyond her guardian's rules make her an easy character to root for. Beautiful pacing, strong character development, and a satisfying ending make this a warm, memorable read that's hard to put down. I can highly recommend it!”
